About this Art:
This was a painting of a couple cowboys I rode with in Montana one time. I tried to depict the feelings they had being out in those hills riding a good horse - the great feeling that is to be able to move wherever you want at whatever speed you want without too much exertion. To be able to enjoy that love of the mountains and the mobility that good horses give you to go and see what it is you want to see, or what it is you want to do, that only horses can give you in the mountains there. They can go almost anywhere, and good horses are sure-footed and obedient and put you where you want to be. So you definitely fall in love with them. The hills and mountains are definitely a place of freedom where you can get away from the stress of every day life and drink in the tremendous oxygen that’s in the atmosphere. It’s pure and undiluted. There’s so many wonderful smells that you experience, of all the trees and flowers, grasses. You can even smell the water when you’re out there. You become very sensitive to those kinds of things if you’re in the hills long enough.
