About this Art:
As a general rule, deer will take a long nap in the day time and then they will feed at night. That tends to be their pattern. They can still see plenty good at night and they're safe from hunters. In the day time, that's when they go find a place on a ridge or the top of a mountain, where they can see a long distance but are hidden in the shadows of trees so it's hard for people to spot them, but they can spot the people. That's what this buck is doing. He's taking a snooze, when he heard a sound from below which serves as a warning that wakes him up. He's looking down the hill to see what's making that noise to see what's coming up his way. It's a very strategic thing the deer do to protect themselves. They rely on their hearing and sense of smell to alarm them while sleeping.
