About this Art:
Going hungry or eating often depended on one good shot. The old time mountain men often used what are called “shooting sticks”, which were two sticks held in one hand propped up on the ground for support, and the barrel of the rifle resting where the two sticks crossed so that the shooter could hold a very steady aim, especially for long distance shooting. Here we have two trappers hoping they can bring down an elk, which would give them fresh meat for supper. Otherwise, it’s probably going to be a hungry camp.
