About this Art:
There was only one way for the mountain men to learn all the things they needed to know and that was by experience. It took time - it was a school of hard knocks and danger. Many did not survive. The seasoning of years is one way of expressing this process. The mountain men were the ones that blazed the trails west. They were the ones that guided the wagon trains of immigrants safely through the Rocky Mountains to their destinations because they knew the trails, they knew the Native American tribes, they spoke their languages, they knew the animals, they knew how to survive - they were the guides for all the people who did not know these things. They were well seasoned and experienced.
