About this Art:

This shows the situation that cowboys get themselves in all the time when they’re doctoring calves out on the range. They’re usually alone. Some of these mother cows are pretty feisty. Other mother cows are a little more docile and they’re not really aggressive. But every once in awhile you’ll find a mother cow who is VERY aggressive. You have to keep an eye on them and be careful because every once in awhile they’ll try to take you, to charge you. They can really hurt you, especially when they have horns. We were doctoring cattle one afternoon, my friend and I, on a ranch down in Utah. The mother was pretty upset. We were trying to save her calf, can’t remember exactly what was wrong, but we were trying to save the calf, and the mother cow charged at my friends horse, and hit that horse full speed in the chest, knocked him of his feet. Luckily she didn’t have horns.
