Spring calving season in many places in the West is a time of cold, wet weather. Even a late calf can meet with poor conditions and in this case, it’s the worst of all. Its mother has died, maybe of pneumonia, and it wouldn’t be long till the calf died too, if it weren’t for the cowboy and his horse.
