About this Art:

Lost River, Idaho is a place I grew up in when I was a young boy. I have a lot of really fond memories of Lost River. It's way out in the boonies, no big towns - just a small, little town. There's two rivers out there - one called the Big Lost River and one called the Little Lost River. The reason they are called lost river is because they disappear. They flow along through the valley, the farmers and ranchers use the rivers for irrigation and watering their stock, people fish in the rivers, and they flow along until all of a sudden, they're gone! They disappear under the ground and once they flow under the ground no one quite knows where they go from there. I can remember as a little boy fishing in those rivers and catching brook trout and rainbow trout. The man in this painting could be anybody, and although it's not me, I did paint myself into it in some ways. For example, I have a shirt like that, I had a horse like that, and I enjoy hunting. It was a moment of being homesick for that valley and country and so I painted it.  It represents anyone from Lost River or a similar town that may feel some of the same sentiments.
