About this Art:
The trail had been hard and long from Winter Quarters to the Valley of Promise, but many had followed an even longer trail from the old country. Their sacrifices along the way are un-numbered, and cannot be completely told, but I hope we can see it in their faces and their bodies in this depiction. I painted this scene to express the many emotions of the pioneers as they gained their first view of the valley. We face many challenges today and must point our faces toward the promised land as well. We can take courage from them and their examples and in turn walk the trail that lies before us with the same spirit they possessed. We too must leave a great legacy of faith in Christ, a heritage of courage in the gospel to those who follow us.
